Save the cheerleader, save the world

Mga kasama, kaibigan at mga kapanalig, let us all sprout wings and learn to fly because soon public transportation fares will be so high that it will be like giving out pints of blood every time we shell out money for a bus ride to, say, Baguio or Bulacan.
Everytime I go to Cavite to visit my mom, I spend at least P100 for fare, one way. I live in Quezon City. P100 one way! When the new PUV tax code is implemented on August 18 (if nothing is done about it, hint-hint — lahat ay magprotesta at magfile ng TRO para hindi matuloy!), by end of the year I’ll maybe have to pay P200 one way. My poor mom, she’ll have to settle for texts from your younger daughter.

I haven’t done anything exciting or interesting lately. Because it’s so expensive to go out and watch movies or go malling, Kim and I have been staying home, watching DVDs.
For Consie who made a comment about Heroes, we’ve finished the first season because the amazing people who pirate and smuggle fake DVDs sell copies of the first season at P45 per CD. We brought ours in Quiapo. What can I say? Am a pirated goods fan. I’ve no choice– am poor.
(My mom is a recent convert to pirated DVDs as well. Last weekend she was looking for a DVD copy of the 3rd season of Grey’s Anatomy and she found copies of the first two seasons selling for P1,000 per CD. Needless to say, she freaked. She has since stopped expressing disapproval for buying bootleg media.)
I buy from ukay-ukay, frequent Booksale, and I get my plates, bowls and mugs from the bangketa of Divisoria and Paco Market. Smugglers would probably consider me their best customer.

What I like best about Heroes is how brainless it is. I mean, one doesn’t have to think while watching and just simply have a bang-up time. Comic books come to life, and old-fashioned superhero values in present-day-ordinary-type characters. We sat down and watched six episodes in a row last week and ended up with headaches, but it was well worth it. Kim had dreams of flying, while I imagined myself having invisibility powers and I go into Malacanang and whisper comments in GMA’s ears about the extrajudicial killings and how her soul is already frying in hell.
